  • Passion for teaching fiber arts, and experience to match
  • Body of work to demonstrate skills, abilities and techniques
  • Ability and desire to actively participate in the Resident Studio Artist community

For more information about the requirements and to apply, please see our Resident Studio Artist Program Application Form

We will continue to accept applications until all spaces full.  We promise to give every application serious consideration, and will do our best to follow up with you within 2 weeks of receiving your application.

JUDI JETSON

Judi is a fiberactivist with a community economic developer’s heart. She’s made things with fiber since her grandmother taught her to knit at age 5, learned tie-dye and batik in the 1960s, weaving in the 1980s and surface design in the 1990s. Judi worked with state & local governments and the U.S. Small Business Administration on job creation, the farm crisis and rural economic development. In 2010, Judi joined HandMade in America and she helped found Local Cloth to help grow the fiber economy in Western North Carolina. Judi likes to knit, spin, dye, and make paper and teaches these things at Local Cloth.

LISA SANDBERG

Lisa Sandberg is the artist behind Studio 510 Fiber Arts and a newly welcomed Local Cloth Resident Artist. Based in Western North Carolina, Lisa works across multiple fiber disciplines as a dyer, continental-style knitter, rigid heddle weaver, e-spinner, and hand-stitching enthusiast. Her work centers on dyeing yarns, fabrics, and fiber using natural dyestuffs, resulting in rich, earthy palettes inspired by nature, tradition, and the handmade. Simple knits, handspun yarns, and handwoven fabrics are Lisa’s go-to forms, allowing her hand-dyed materials to be the stars of the show. A perpetual student herself, she values curiosity, experimentation, and the sharing of knowledge across fiber traditions. Alongside her artistic practice, Lisa is currently in her 36th year as a registered dental hygienist, serving patients in Asheville four days a week. This long-standing career has shaped her strong sense of professionalism, attention to detail, and care—qualities she brings seamlessly into her fiber arts business. As retirement approaches, she is focused on growing Studio 510 Fiber Arts full-time, with plans to travel, vend at fiber events, teach workshops, and continue learning within the vibrant Western North Carolina fiber arts community. Since 2022, Lisa has taught knitting, e-spinning, rigid heddle weaving, and dyeing classes throughout the Asheville area, with knitting instruction ranging from learn-to-knit and skill-building to pattern reading and two-at-a-time socks. She was recently featured in a month-long trunk show at a local yarn shop, marking an exciting step forward for Studio 510 Fiber Arts. Lisa lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina, with her dog Weaver. She is deeply inspired by the opportunity to work in the heart of the River Arts District and is passionate about being part of the next generation of artists helping to keep fiber arts alive and thriving in Western North Carolina. She looks forward to creating, teaching, learning, and sharing colorful, joyful fiber experiences with the Local Cloth community.
