As a moving meditation, the process of weaving has a magical way of helping us to get out of our heads to simply “be,” and experience flow when working the loom. For me, weaving has helped me to see firsthand the connection between my mind and body and how one impacts the other. It has also helped me to slow down and enjoy the process just as much, if not more, than the piece of art that I create. The goal of this class is to share this magic with you! This Introduction to Weaving class covers the basics of how to weave using a lap loom (which you can take anywhere!) and incorporates elements of mindfulness. We’ll start with a weaving gratitude practice that will serve as the inspiration for our woven projects. Then, we’ll warp our looms and start weaving our designs, incorporating several basic weaving techniques, including twining, tabby, soumak, and rya. Finally, we’ll learn how to clean the backside of our weaving project and finish them off using a hanging rod. You’ll leave with a hanging tapestry (designed by you!) and a weaving gratitude practice that you can continue on your own after the class. Don’t have a loom or weaving materials? My Complete Weaving Kit has everything you need to get started!
