Her reversible garments, home goods and totes begin as cast off cotton Indian saris. The scraps of fabric are rescued, layered, assembled and hand stitched with running stitches by enterprising Bengali women making something useful and beautiful out of discarded items. She sources the “kantha” blankets in Jaipur India hand picking through piles of colorful blankets with no two alike.
The blankets are first cleaned and restored. You’ll see some wonderful, hand stitched patches where the fabric was worn. Then the magic (deciding the most interesting way to use the vintage textiles) happens. No two blankets or garments are alike with each side of the reversible piece having a different personality.
