Jaana Mattson

Creating Impressionist Fiber Landscapes

Jaana Mattson creates impressionistic needle-felted fiber landscapes in wool to reflect the natural world in subject and material.  Jaana will talk about her evolution as a full-time artist, show examples of her award winning work and demonstrate her layered dry-felting methods with a hands-on demonstration of blending techniques and layering "underpaintings" of color to create her vibrantly realistic landscapes in wool.

Jaana primarily lives, works and teaches from her home studios in Uptown, Minneapolis, MN, but now spends a couple months every winter in the Asheville area, working and teaching and enjoying the rich craft community. In 1999 she completed an MFA with a focus in fibers at UW-Seattle. Jaana worked as a jewelry artist for 10 years before focusing on her needle felting work.  She teaches workshops when not in the studio or exhibiting her work.

There  is no charge for participating, but please RSVP so that you receive the door code, so that we can contact you if there are changes, and so that we can track the success of our programming.
