For students who cannot attend continuing classes on Thursdays, this intensive two-day workshop is designed for beginners with no knowledge of weaving or those looking to refresh their warping and weaving skills. Participants will work in teams of two/loom who are paired up based on experience level. Team members will take turns, so that each participant can practice warping and weaving skills, and we can keep the class moving along. Day 1 will be spent with a short lecture on project planning followed by winding warps on a warping board. The remainder of the day will be taken up with front-to-back warping: sleying the reed, threading heddles, beaming the warp and tying onto the front beam. Day 2, each participant will have a chance to weave plain weave, twill and patterned twill samples on their shared looms, and learn simple hemstitching. If time permits, we will swap looms to weave samples of other patterns. We will wrap up with a discussion about wet finishing. Each participant will take home his/her own samples.
