In this class we will learn about the Chemistry of Natural Dyes:  mordants, pH, pigments, dyes, stains, lakes, redox reactions, light and wash-fastness and why they're important in natural dyeing. We will also look at a comparison of natural and synthetic dyes. This is an informational session that is recommended as a prerequisite to the hands on Natural Dye series: Heritage Dyes: madder, Weld and Indigo, if you are a beginning dyer.
