One person's weed is another person's dye plant! This month we will dye with plants that are considered weeds or invasives. Look for these spring plants in your own yard or wild in disturbed areas and along the roadside. We'll make a spring mix with our foraged finds. Look for dock, also known as sorrel (pictured above), dandelion, nettle and English ivy. Make sure to bring mordanted fibers as most of these plants have the pigment luteolin which requires a mordant. Use the double step process: tannin then alum acetate or alum for cellulose fibers and alum for protein fibers The dyeing takes time so bring along a project to work on as well as any show and tell you'd like to share. We will also be doing some work in the dye garden weather permitting so bring garden gloves and a tool for weeding.
