Natural Dye Interest Group

This month is all about  fresh indigo, used fresh indigo gives a lovely turquoise color and sometimes a pink/purple from the indirubin. We will use both the ice and salt method of dyeing with fresh indigo. We will use some of the plants we have in the dye garden but please bring some indigo from your own garden if you are growing it. Pick it at the last minute and put it in a container of cold  water. This method only works on protein fiber so please bring a silk scarf or some yarn to dye. (if you are bringing yarn wet it out the night before and unless you are bringing indigo we won't have enough for a full skein).

If you haven't joined the us for the study group we pick one topic each month which is led by one of the natural dyer's in our group. This is not a class and does assume a basic familiarity with natural dyeing. We do recommend that you have taken a class or done some research so you can  have a  satisfactory experience.
