Join the Natural Dye Study group on December 2nd to experiment with Logwood 

Logwood is the heartwood of the logwood tree, Haematoxylon campechianum, which grows in Central America. Colors range from deep, rich red purples to orchid blues and when post mordanted with iron black can be achieved. Logwood has good washfastnes but moderate lightfastness, small amounts of iron improves the lightfastness dramatically. pH will also affect the color and we will do a post dye pH modification to see that affect. Logwood has to be purchased from a supplier, so please be prepared to chip in for that, the amount will depend on the number of participants, but it won’t be more than a few dollars. We will just plan to do samples (pre-mordnated samples will be ready for the day). If you want to do your own dyeing, please purchase logwood to do that.
