This is a mail-order, community developed Weaving Library Exchange, beginning in June. It has been created in an effort to engage with the larger Local Cloth community who cannot often make it to the shared studio and as a method to collectively develop our weaving skills.

$85 for our (first!) 6 month session

Deadline to sign-up is June 10th!!

All who wish to participate will be responsible for:

  • 1 warp of samples

-same, replicated weaving

-max. size is 6” x 6” / sample

-after sign-up due date we will know exact # of samples each must complete, (# will equal total number of participants + 1 so that a sample book can live in the shared LC studio space)

  • Fill out a provided draft info page (draft, source, style of weaving, epi, yarns used, etc)

  • Get all your samples to me with one legibly filled out draft card (to the shared studio or my home by mail or drop off)

I will then:

  • Photocopy draft info page

  • Affix samples to each page

  • Mail samples to all participants.

(This stage is the reason for the charge to participate- shipping costs and my facilitator fee. I wanted to structure this stage in to allow you all to have fun focusing on the weaving and as a method to standardize the final product).

Upon signing up:

A calendar for the first 6 months will go around and people will sign up for what month they plan to have their sample due (June - December). This is only to ensure that there is a little something in everyone’s mailbox each month and that I do not get bogged down with finishing & mailing all samples at the end.

Everyone can choose what kind of weaving they want to sample out. Overshot? Huck-a-back? Linsey-woolsey? Summer + Winter? Plain weave? Up to you! This project can be what you want to make of it. If you know right away what you want to weave, great! There will be a way to put that on the calendar when it goes around. No one can “claim” a technique, but it may be nice to know what everyone is interested in.

*If you wish to participate but do not have a loom or access to a plethora of yarn PLEASE contact me, we can find a solution.

**If you are not a weaver but would like to get involved- do you have yarn or dye that you would like to showcase? Contact me, let’s see if an arrangement can be made.

The more who participate = the greater exchange and development of knowledge
