Batik & Dyeing in Kutch, India

Asheville batik & tie-dye artist Jessica Kaufman returns from her 1.5 month exploration into the rich batik & dye traditions of the Kutch region in western India. Kutch is responsible for providing India with most of its wax-resist and thread-resist fabrics. Small, family-run, 5th generation dyehouses are still operational today, many of which produce hundreds of meters of cloth per day with rudimentary tools and inherited designs. Join us on the evening of April 2 at Local Cloth to see Jessica’s slideshow of her time living and studying with the artists themselves, and oooh-ahhh over the pile of fabrics she brought back!
