We support and sustain the regional fiber
and textile arts economy and professions in the Blue Ridge Mountains
through collaboration, education and innovation.
The Asheville Surface Design Group meets monthly (the 4th Monday of each month at 6:00 pm). The international organization of the SDA (Surface Design Association) defines what we do as "the coloring, patterning, and structuring of fiber and fabric. This involves creative exploration of processes such as dyeing, painting, printing, stitching, embellishing, quilting, weaving, knitting, felting, and papermaking". At present, our group focuses on activities that involve paints onto fabrics and we have members that are interested in art quilts and wearable art. We have a show and tell followed by a demo and an activity that everyone takes part in.
